Mrs. King
Emily Smith graduated from Kirksville High School in 1930. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville for two years and then transferred to the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating in 1935. Her major was in journalism and liberal arts. Her coursework included two years of French, two years of German and four years of Latin.
On April 17, 1938, Emily Smith married Boyd King, who played basketball at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University). Boyd and Emily Smith King moved into the Smith House in 1946, when Mr. King began his coaching career at Truman State University.
Mrs. Emily Smith King lived in the house she grew up in until a few months before her death in December 2006. The house then went to its third owner, the King Foundation. King Foundation is a charitable trust that Mrs. King created. In 2010, the house was passed to Campus Christian Fellowship after they leased it for two years at ten dollars per month.
