From beginnings as the editor-in-chief for her high school newspaper, Angela Cervantes has been in love with writing. She says, "Writing is the only thing I've ever wanted to do in my life," and additionally:

I'm super proud of the novels I've written because they're exactly the type of books I would have enjoyed when I was a child.

Further according to her website, she's been writing since she was nine years old, especially to introduce stories with protagonists who were Latina just like her and her family and friends. Looking outward at the surrounding world is how Cervantes comes up with her stories. Like she says:

Ideas can come from anywhere. A lot of my ideas hit me while I'm driving. I see something or think of something and all of a sudden it's an idea that haunts me until I write it down.
